How to lodge your Intent to Marry forms in Australia
Step 1 -FILL OUT THE Notice of Intent to Marry Form (NOIM)
The NOIM needs to be completed, witnessed and lodged with your celebrant at least one month prior to your wedding date.
I will send you a Celebrant Easy link to fill in all your details for the form
Once filled out, I’ll generate the forms and send you the NOIM pdf for review
You will then need to have your signatures witnessed>
I can do this via online meeting, or head to your local police station - any rank will do.
OR you can sort the NOIM yourself
DOWNLOAD THE NOIM HEREPrint out the NOIM, fill it out and take it to one of the following authorised witnesses-
Justice of the Peace
General Practitioner
Police Officer or
Barrister/Solicitor
Super duper important - Pharmacists, Nurses, Commissioner for Declarations or Dentists are not an authorised witnesses for this form.
If you use one of these as a witness, I will need you to get it re-witnessed. (So annoying, I know!)
It is a LEGAL requirement that we only use the authorised witnesses listed above.
Other notes:
If you can’t be together to have your signatures witnessed, each party can use a separate witness for the form but you need to use the same document as each other, so one first then hand it to the other party for their turn.
IF YOU LIVE OVERSEAS - There is a different set of witnesses required for the NOIM - A Public Notary or a Member of the Australian Consulate.
Once witnessed, please email the last three pages to me at least a month prior to the wedding date.
Step 2 - SHOW YOUR ID DOCUMENTS
Once the NOIM is completed I will need to sight original (not certified) copies of your ID documents, this can be-
Passports (Australian or Overseas)
or
Birth Certificates and a photo ID (Drivers Licence, Keypass, etc)
You can either email it over, or show it during a video call.
Thats it, you’re registered to marry and we can now relax and get on with the creative side of things!
